Employment Services

Employment Services offer participants a flexible support program designed to identify career and employment interests. It also assists participants to find and maintain gainful employment. The areas focused on are Discovery, Job Development, Follow-Along Supports, Ongoing Job Supports, Co-Worker Employment Supports, Customized Self-Employment, and Self-Employment Development Services. Services will be rendered to participants residing in Maryland. Participants who were previously in Supported Employment Services will be transitioned into one of the available Employment Services sub-services. This will occur following an assessment and identification of employment desires by participants.

• Discovery is a structured process to assist the participant to find out their strengths, what they want to do, and who they are.
• Job Development assists the participant to find a job including self or customized employment.
• Ongoing Job Supports is unique in that it provides a multitude of supports, specific to the participant that may be needed to maintain their job.
• Follow-Along Supports occurs after a participant transitions into their job and provides periodic supports.
• Self-Employment Development Services assist participants whose skills and profile or assessments indicate that participants would be better served as a small business owner or in resource ownership.
• Co-Worker Employment Services are supports with a time limit that may consist of an extended orientation period and training beyond the normal provision. This service is rendered by the employer and is used to strengthen or instill the skills needed by the participant for the job.
• Customized Self-Employment will explore how an individual’s interests, skills, and abilities may be better suited for self-employment. This model will assist individuals to make connections with other business owners or advocacy groups, plan or research what is needed to start their own business. Customized Self-employment may include assistance in the development of a business and marketing plan to secure resources or revenue.
